Heroines of History

THE RESTORATION OF THE HEROINE In this collection of stories from Greco-Roman antiquity to World War I, we meet a wide range of brave and faithful women, from keepers of the hearth to leaders of empire. They are presented in legend and mythology, poetry and essays, and true stories and letters. In these pages a wide array of history's heroines, some better known than others, come to life to admonish when we stray, console when we despair, and embolden when we falter. These heroines are the mothers, wives, and friends whom we wish our young girls to emulate and our strong young sons to marry. They are women, in contrast to most popular culture figures, with the character and spirit we wish to see in all levels of leadership: domestic, professional, or otherwise. Take these heroines into your hearts as you would dearest friends and allow them to guide and fortify you. We renew their lives and ours when we accept the inheritance they offer.
